- In the early 1920's, the Balboa Penninsula was witness and home to a growing trend in the world of dancing. Unnamed at its birth, the dance came into its own during the early 1930's and became known as The Balboa. The Balboa became extremely popular, making its way up the coast to Los Angeles. Here you could find it being danced throughout the swing era at many of the famous ballrooms such as the Paladium, Casino Gardens, and the Trianon Ballrooms.
